Five simple techniques to keep you motivated
Everyone sets goals for themselves: perhaps they have a dream to lose weight, make more money, spend more time with the family, or go on a big vacation. Your dream may be to start your work at home business, grow it to provide a certain level of income, or achieve a particular level of success. Dreams and goals should be part of everyone’s life.
One of the main differences between successful people and drifters is that the successful make their goals more formally, record and monitor their goals on a regular - often daily - basis, and are relentless in pursuing them. These people are often intrinsically motivated - that is, they have the power from within to make changes and work towards their goals, and do not need outside recognition to help them achieve their dreams.
Others are motivated by external factors - that is, they need outside forces and recognition to make them achieve their goals. It may be money, praise or other rewards.
Most people are motivated by a combination of the two. The best way for you to accomplish your goals is to find what motivates you and work with it. Here are some techniques which can help the process.
1. Take some time to write down your goals in detail. If you write down the steps you need to achieve to reach the end result, it will be easier for you to take those steps one by one. Visualize your goal through writing or by pictures. Where do you want to go with your business? What are you aiming to achieve? How are you going to get there?
2. Find some support to accomplish your dreams. Tell everyone around you what you want to achieve and surround yourself with positive people that can encourage you each day to reach your goal. Find others who have achieved what you want to achieve and learn from them. Stay away from those that may encourage you back into your old thought patterns.
3. Reward yourself. Rewards can make almost anyone motivated to work on a task. After you have finished making that phone call, reward yourself with a five minute break and a cup of tea. When you achieve a certain number of customers or hit a sales target, take yourself and your partner out to dinner. You can also help others as a reward. When your bank balance reaches a certain amount, make a worthwhile donation to charity or start a fund for your children. You will feel motivated by rewarding yourself and others and know that you have helped yourself and those around you in the process.
4. Set up a timetable and work within that period. For long-term goals, you may not be able to accomplish them in a few days. Some achievements take weeks or months. Have a reasonable time frame in mind and work a little every day to get to the end result. When you accomplish one step towards your final goal, mark each day off your calendar
5. Have realistic expectations. Understand that you might have setbacks and try to not stress yourself over these bumps in the road. Achieving your goals will not be easy and if you get frustrated with setbacks, you are more likely to give up. Keep working on your goals and do not beat yourself up if you have one bad day. Stay motivated and just vow to pick up the pieces and continue the next day.
